Balloon Race

I wanted to draw something with a background. Something in the sky. And while reading through more of those dA contest rants, I saw the word "balloon" and was like, "I KNOW WHAT I WANT TO DRAW."

The pictured characters are Tori (silver hair) and Raina (blonde hair), and in the background the Wiseman Lore is somewhat visible.

Tori, who I've submitted a few drawings of before, is the main protagonist. After her home town is brought down in flames, her remaining sister kidnapped and remaining family slaughtered, she walks the path of the warrior to reunite herself with her last remaining family member. This happens when Tori is 8. Tori is now 13.

Tori encounters Raina when she is 13 and taken advantage of by a middle-aged man with unusual power. Raina is vigilant in entering battle with the man to protect Tori and displays her own unusual powers. Tori is still baffled by the use of mana, but her growing strength and sword-fighting ability are all she needs. Raina vows to protect Tori after the encounter until the day she dies, and sees Tori as a younger sister. Raina knows there is something special about Tori, something in her blood that sets her above other inhabitants of Gaea.


Maybe I need to do some texture work, or maybe a few filters. It just doesn't feel... complete... hm... I'll update this later. I'm not satisfied yet.
